100 Years - Thursday, January 28, 1909

Farmers’ institute.
Two sessions of the Farmers’ Institute will be held in St. Charles on Monday, Feb. 1st.  The Institute will be in charge of Mr. Forest Henry of Dover, Minn., assisted by Mr. A. Brackett of Excelsior and Mr. C.W. Hale of Stewartville.  These men are practical Minnesota Farmers, working under Minnesota conditions, and knowing what the farmers of Minnesota have to contend with.  Each one is a good speaker and can be of much help to those who attend the Institute.

75 Years - Friday, January 26, 1934

Township a day is goal of corn hog committees.  First meeting held at Fremont Jan. 24.  County agent urges farmers to attend scheduled meeting in territory.
Will Winona county farmers go on producing corn and hogs at the rate they have been producing them for the last few years, or will they, in response to the appeal of the Agricultural Administration, curtail their production of these commodities to fit the existing demand?
The answer to this question will be found in the outcome of the corn-hog reduction campaign which is now being conducted in this county, and which will come to a climax next week when farmers will be given opportunity to sign up the Administration’s corn-hog reduction contract.

50 Years - Thursday, January 22, 1959

Guidance program to be held in activity room Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Parents of Juniors and Seniors attending St. Charles High School are invited to a Guidance Program in the School Activity Room next Tuesday night, January 27 at 8:00.  Discussion will contain information helpful to parents in guiding their teenagers through high school and into future schooling, training, or jobs.  The following topics will be discussed by Mr. Traxler, counselor; and Mr. Smith, Mr. Belsaas, principal and superintendent, respectfully.

25 Years - Tuesday, January 24, 1984

Cable television subscribers may possibly have their viewing selections expanded by six additional channels later this spring if they agree to a $2.70 per month rate hike.
According to Ted Derby of Preston Cable TV, Inc., the company is seeking ways to improve its service to customers and be competitive with other nearby cable franchises.  He told the St. Charles Cable Commission that a basic service rate hike is coming in the near future, possibly 55 cents per month.

10 Years - Thursday, January 28, 1999

Police and Fire Depts. Called to St. Charles Trustworthy Hardware.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, St. Charles Trustworthy Hardware owner Steve Waldee placed a call to the St. Charles Police Department after noticing a strange odor that caused Mr. Waldee’s eyes to water and burn.
Upon Further investigation by St. Charles Police Chief Dennis Volk, who also suffered the effects of the unknown chemical, the St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department was called to provide the necessary gas masks and proper oxygen equipment.
