Many questions come to our minds about agriculture that we would like to have explained. How to feed roots; how to keep the boy and girls on the farm; the hired man question; how to grade up our cows; the best method to follow in various work; the latest ideas in building and cooperation, and a thousand other every day questions. All of the above you have the privilege of asking at the Farmers’ Institute and they will be answered by men who are paid by the state for knowing how the answer them.
Women asked to register in new federal project. City requests $2,000 for pay roll. Additional work may bring $900 per week to city; relief expense cut. Unemployed women of St. Charles and the St. Charles territory, are asked to register at city hall Saturday. About $2,000 has been requested by the city from the federal government to pay for work to be done on public buildings, and if request is granted, workers will be selected from the list of those registered tomorrow.
50 Years - Thursday, January 15, 1958
Adult typing class to be offered at St. Charles H.S. An adult class in typing will be offered at St. Charles High School this winter if there is enough interest. One of two possible courses will be offered first; either a beginner’s course or a refresher course, again depending on demand. Anyone interested in one of these courses should call or contact the school office, telephone 771, as soon as possible.
25 Years - Tuesday, January 17, 1984
City explains its side of liquor store action. “We just plain didn’t have a criminal case.” That statement was city attorney Jerry Relph’s summation of the reasoning behind the city council not filing criminal charges after investigations into missing money of its liquor store account in October.
10 Years - Thursday, January 12, 1999
On December 30th, Jay Jasperson, Tim Clawson and Administrator Young met to continue discussions on the A&W Restaurant Project. Mr. Jasperson has joined with John Decker to construct a small A&W Restaurant within the convenience store/gas station that Mr. Decker is planning to build. The location would be that of the old Firestone garage.
